Novige AB is a Swedish cleantech startup that is behind the development of NoviOcean WEC. It is essentially an inverted hydropower plant at sea (HPAS concept). The rectangular float’s heaving motion can create 600 tons of lifting force in every 3.5-meter wave. This force is hydraulically transferred to a fast-spinning Pelton turbine-and generator assembly.
NoviOcean uses simple, light-weighted, and well-proven parts allowing for a reliable and stable electricity output leading to a lower cost of electricity. A lower cost than offshore wind will be achieved after 50 MW deployment. “Saving the climate with profitable wave power” is our goal which we intend to achieve via global partnerships and licensing to facilitate local manufacturing/operation using readily available resources.
Since its establishment in 2016 by the inventor/entrepreneur Jan Skjoldhammer, Novige AB has attracted several national- and European-level grants as well as a team of highly competent and complementing experts either internally or on a consultancy/advisory basis. The team has been so far awarded the EU Commission’s Seal of Excellence, Mission Innovation Champion 2020, Guldstänk’s Innovator of the Year 2020, Stena Line’s Propeller Prize 2021.
